Attorney General nominee Matt Gaetz stepped back from consideration on Thursday after engaging in discussions with Republican senators on Capitol Hill.
In a post on X, Gaetz, 42, shared that his meetings with senators were productive, but he recognized that his potential appointment was “unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition.”
“There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General,” Gaetz stated. “Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”

Matt Gaetz withdrew Thursday as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general following continued scrutiny over a federal trafficking investigation that cast doubt on the former congressman’s ability to be confirmed as the nation’s chief federal law enforcement officer. The Florida Republican’s announcement came one day after meeting with senators in an effort to win their support for his confirmation to lead the Justice Department. “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition,” Gaetz said in a statement announcing his decision.

Have you ever noticed how refreshing it feels to take a deep breath in a natural setting? It turns out there might be more to that feeling than just the absence of air pollution, Study Finds reports.
When we think about nutrients, our minds usually go to what we consume in our diets. But an in-depth review of scientific studies reveals strong evidence that humans can also absorb certain nutrients directly from the air we breathe.
Study Finds reports that a recent article in Advances in Nutrition introduces the term “aeronutrients” to describe these airborne nutrients, distinguishing them from “gastronutrients,” which are absorbed through digestion.

Dearborn, Michigan Mayor Abdullah Hammoud announced on Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant would face arrest if they enter Dearborn, drawing sharp criticism and accusations of grandstanding. In a social media post, Hammoud declared his city’s intent to enforce the controversial arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) last week. The ICC accused Netanyahu and Gallant of “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity,” charges Israel has dismissed as “antisemitic” and “absurd.” Netanyahu’s office blasted the warrants as politically motivated and baseless. Hammoud’s statement goes far beyond the jurisdiction of a local mayor and is an explicit boast to break American law.

Three Palestinian terrorists from Chevron have been charged with plotting to murder Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and his son, the Israel Police and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) announced on Thursday following a joint investigation.
According to the “severe indictment” submitted this week to the military court, the main defendant, Ismail Ibrahim Awadi, contacted several individuals to establish a terror cell, acquire weapons and manufacture explosive devices.
Awadi reached out to the Hamas and Hezbollah terrorist organizations in July 2024 for assistance in carrying out a series of planned attacks.

President Isaac Herzog: “This is a dark day for justice. A dark day for humanity. Taken in bad faith, the outrageous decision at the ICC has turned universal justice into a universal laughing stock. It makes a mockery of the sacrifice of all those who fight for justice – from the Allied victory over the Nazis till today. It ignores the plight of the 101 Israeli hostages held in brutal captivity by Hamas in Gaza. It ignores Hamas’ cynical use of its own people as human shields. It ignores the basic fact that Israel was barbarically attacked and has the duty and right to defend its people. It ignores the fact that Israel is a vibrant democracy, acting under international humanitarian law, and going to great lengths to provide for the humanitarian needs of the civilian population.
