Things are gradually opening up Eretz Yisroel, and hundreds of American yungeleit are returning through their yeshivos.
However, askanim tell Matzav.com that Anglos returning to learn in Eretz Yisroel must be aware of what they will encounter upon their arrival.
“Those coming back must go into full quarantine for two full weeks,” one activist told Matzav.com. “That means no shul, no shopping, no sending kids to gan, etc. just staying in your home.”
Unfortunately, there are some American yungeleit, Matzav.com has been told, who aren’t aware of the seriousness of the situation and are sneaking out to shul and sending their children to gan.
“They have all sorts of good excuses,” said the askan. “They say, ‘I’m very careful. I already had it. I have antibodies, etc.’”
The fallout can be significant.
“Besides for issues of pikuach nefesh and protecting people’s health, people must know that if the government or police find out that there is widespread violation of the quarantine orders, they will put a complete stop to anyone entering the country and really cause difficulty for avreichim and bochurim who need to resume their lives.”
Two askanim told Matzav.com that they know firsthand that the Israeli government will not hesitate to block all non-Israeli yungeleit and bochurim from returning if they feel that the lockdown rules are not being followed.
There are many organizations in Yerushalayim, Bnei Brak and elsewhere, that are available to help Americans who are quarantined take care of their shopping and keep their children occupied during their lockdown.
“Please stress the seriousness of this matter,” an askan told Matzav.com. “We must hope that returnees will keep to the rules.”
