Locals in the Hamadan province of Iran desecrated the kevarim of Mordechai HaTzaddik and Esther HaMalka and burned Israeli flags at the site in the wake of the war between Israel and Gaza, B’Chadrei Chareidim. They also sent a letter to the Iranian Culture Ministry demanding that the site be converted into a “museum of the crimes of the Zionist regime” and that a public relations office of the “Palestinian resistance forces” be established there. The letter falsely claimed that the request was made with the consent of the local Jews. Dr. Homayoun Sameyah, a Jewish member of the Iranian parliament, responded by sending a letter to the Iranian authorities, asking for its protection. Sources in the community said that Iranian Jews are feeling a lot of stress and fear in the wake of the war and “the situation is not good.” They added that shuls in Iran are now functioning on a limited basis only in order to avoid unnecessary attention.
