Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beytenu party, has sharply criticized the government’s decision to remove Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, particularly during a time of conflict with all Israel’s adversaries. He claims that Prime Minister Netanyahu is making a grave mistake by engaging in a battle against Bar, a move that plays into the hands of Israel’s enemies.
“The prime minister of October 7 [Bibi Netanyahu] is doing exactly what our enemies dream of — fighting the Shin Bet head,” Lieberman asserts. He further argues that Netanyahu should have taken accountability for the failure of that day, resigning immediately and demanding that everyone responsible for the catastrophe do the same.

New York State Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein penned a sharply worded letter to New York City Mayor Eric Adams and to NYC Department of Social Services Commissioner Molly Wasow Park, expressing his strong opposition to the decision to place a shelter for homeless families in Boro Park at a location that would adversely affect the surrounding area. While Assemblyman Eichenstein acknowledged the importance of addressing the needs of the homeless in New York City, he said he is disturbed to have learned about the plan to place a shelter in the area without having been consulted previously. “Why weren’t our community leaders or local elected officials informed and engaged in advance?” Assemblyman Eichenstein asked.

A group of 62 bipartisan lawmakers is urging President Donald Trump to appoint a special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism, citing a troubling rise in global Jew-hatred. The position, which holds ambassadorial rank within the U.S. State Department, has been vacant since historian Deborah Lipstadt stepped down to return to teaching at Emory University. The initiative is being led by Rep. Grace Meng (D-N.Y.), who emphasized the urgency of reaffirming the United States’ commitment to fighting antisemitism. In a letter addressed to the president, Meng and her colleagues stressed that filling the role is critical to maintaining America’s leadership in confronting anti-Jewish hate.

Britain’s Heathrow Airport will be closed all Friday after an electrical substation fire knocked out its power, potentially affecting hundreds of thousands of passengers who use one of Europe’s biggest travel hubs. Thousands of homes also lost power and about 150 people had to be evacuated after a transformer within an electrical substation caught fire in west London. “To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, we have no choice but to close Heathrow” for the full day Friday, the airport’s statement said. “We expect significant disruption over the coming days, and passengers should not travel to the airport under any circumstances until the airport reopens.” It said it will provide an update on its operations when it has more information on restoring power available.

In an extraordinary and unprecedented move, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet voted unanimously in the early hours of Friday morning to dismiss Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar. The ousting of Bar—the first-ever dismissal of a Shin Bet director in Israeli history—has sent shockwaves through the country, with critics decrying it as a dangerous power grab and a potential obstruction of justice, while supporters praised it as a necessary step to restore confidence in national security leadership. However, on Friday, Israel’s High Court intervened, issuing an injunction that temporarily freezes Bar’s dismissal pending a full legal review. Bar’s final day was initially set for April 10, though Netanyahu’s government had hinted at forcing him out even sooner if a replacement were secured.

The BBC recently explicitly asked to interview Israeli military personnel who are “critical of Netanyahu” and Israel’s recent ground offensive against the Hamas terror group in the Gaza Strip, according to Orly Goldschmidt, spokeswoman for the Israeli Embassy in the United Kingdom.
She posted a screenshot of the message, accompanied by a caption condemning it.
“Today, my team received this remarkable message from a BBC producer,” Goldschmidt wrote. “They don’t want to interview someone knowledgeable, nor someone relevant, just someone who fits the predetermined narrative. There is nothing balanced or impartial about this.”

Elon Musk, the billionaire and close ally of President Donald Trump, is scheduled to receive a briefing from the Pentagon today regarding the US military’s strategy in the event of a potential war with China, according to a report from the New York Times on Thursday, citing US officials.
Being granted access to the highly classified military plan would significantly increase Musk’s influence as a Trump adviser, particularly in light of his leadership in efforts to reduce US government expenditure.
This move would also raise further concerns regarding possible conflicts of interest for Musk, given his leadership roles at both Tesla and SpaceX, two companies with business dealings in China and with the Pentagon.
