After a grueling two weeks, the body of R’ Chaim (Harry) Rosenberg Z”L of Flatbush was found and identified in the rubble of the Surfside condo collapse. He was 52. Chaim purchased the second-floor condo only last month, hoping that its views of the Atlantic Ocean would help him find solace after a turbulent year that saw the loss of his wife, Anna Rosenberg A”H, to cancer, and both of his parents to COVID-19. Chaim was a longtime Mispallel at Rabbi Weinfeld’s Shul in Flatbush. In recent months Chaim had dedicated himself towards launching Mercaz Shalom, a young adult center for mental healing, located on the campus of Mayanei Hayeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak, Israel, in memory of his late wife.

The Miami-Dade Police Department has identified two more victims of the Champlain Towers South condo building collapse in Surfside, Florida. Tzvi (68) and Itty Ainsworth (66), were recovered from the rubble Monday. The number of deceased now stands at 27. The Ainsworth couple lived in Australia for almost 20 years, but in more recent years moved to Florida to be near their children. They still split their time between Australia and Miami. They have seven children, with many living in Florida, including a daughter who lives just blocks away from the collapse site. Though modest and reserved, the Ainsworths were noted for their hospitality and devotion towards helping those in need in their quiet and unassuming manner. In Florida, they doted on their grandchildren.

The first victim identified in the rubble of the Champlain Towers was Stacie Fang, z’l, 54. Stacie, z’l, was a mother, beloved community member and businesswoman, Chabad. org reported. She lived in the Champlain Towers. Her son, Jonah Handler, 15, miraculously survived when a man walking by the rubble heard a cry for help and saw hands pushing at the debris. Stacie, originally from New York City, worked for the past ten years as Vice President of the Surfside-based Customer Relationship Management Conference “There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Stacie,” a family statement said. “The members of the Fang and Handler families would like to express our deepest appreciation for the outpouring of sympathy, compassion and support we have received.

The bodies of Leon, z’l, and Ruth Oliwkowicz, z’l, residents of the Champlain Towers South residential building in Surfside, were found over the weekend, the police announced on Sunday. Aryey Oliwkowicz, 79, and Ruth Oliwkowicz (Christina Beatriz Elvira), 74, were originally from Venezeula. They are the parents of Mrs. Leah Fouhal, a member of the Chabad community in Chicago, Collive reported. In 2019, Aryeh and Ruth donated a Sefer Torah to Sefer Torah to Yeshivas Ohr Eliyahu – Lubavitch Mesivta of Chicago, where their daughter works as a secretary. Aryeh, z’l, proudly spoke in Yiddish at the event about his happiness in donating the Sefer Torah in memory of his parents.

YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of HaRav Shlomo Lankry ZATZAL, a longtime Sephardic Rov in Flatbush. He was in his eighties. Rav Lankry arrived in America as a newly married man with two young children. He was very close to the Mirrer Yeshiva and its Roshei Yeshiva. He spent a lot of time with a group of Moroccan Bochrim who had been brought from Morocco to the Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn by the venerable Rosh Yeshiva, Hagaon HaRav Avraham Kalmanowitz ZATZAL. He was one of the founders and leaders of the Chevra Kaddisha for the Sephardic community, where he gave of his life selflessly for more than 50 years. For many years he owned a Seforim store on Kings Highway near East 7th Street called “Si-Su”, while his wife owned a catering business in Flatbush.

HaGaon HaRav Yechiel Zilberberg, z’tl, the legendary Ba’al Koreh of Yeshivas Mir and one of the chashuvei Talmidei Chachamim in Yerushalayim, passed away on Monday. Rav Yechiel, z’tl, was one of the first talmidim of the Mir in Yerushalayim and served as a Ba’al Koreh there for over 50 years. The Torah was the center of Rav Yechiel’s life and from a young age, he was noheig to be extremely medakdeik in halacha and was makpid al kalah k’chamura. He was also mechaber the sefer Minchas Yachid, a sefer of commentary and teshuvos on the Minchas Chinuch. Rav Yechiel was a well-known figure in the Mir, where he was noheig to sit and learn for hours and also developed a close relationship with the Roshei Yeshivah, especially HaGaon HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, zt’l.

She was the mother of: Mrs Shoshana Perl (London), R’ Shimon Zeldes (Lakewood), Mrs Cyrel Brudny (Edison), Mrs Naomi Ellinson (Lakewood) Levaya will take place at the Lakewood Memorial Chapel, 613 Ramsey Avenue Sunday 9:30 AM Kevura on Har Hazesim.

Mourning engulfed the kehilla of Jews of Syrian and Lebanese origin in Israel on Friday morning upon the news of the death HaRav Avraham Chamra, z’l, at the age of 78. The niftar was born in Syria, where he began leading the community as a young man, and tended to all the needs of the Jewish community with great mesirus nefesh, including kashrus, marriage, araba minin, gittin and levayos. He moved to Israel in 1994 after ensuring that many other Jews left the country as well, and established a new kehilla in Eretz Hakodesh in the city of Holon. He also served as a member of the Holon Religious Council.

YWN regrets to inform you of the sudden Petira of one of Yehuda Kranczer ZT”L of Detroit. He was 47. He was Niftar after suffering a massive heart attack while learning the Daf on Thursday morning. The news of his Petira sent the entire community into mourning, leaving hundreds of his friends and those he helped in shock and disbelief. The Niftar was one of the pillars of Chesed of the Detroit Community, and was involved in literally every single Chesed project in the community. He was a Hatzolah of Michigan volunteer (“M-36”), a Chaveirim volunteer, and part of a slew of other Chesed organizations. Friends tell YWN that although he spent his entire day doing Chesed, no one knew, as he kept everything quiet. “He was a big guy, with a massive heart”, a Hatzolah member told YWN.

YWN regrets to inform you of the petira of HaRav Moshe Elyakim Briah Kahana ZATZAL, the Spinka-Kahana Rebbe in Bnei Brak. He was 93. The Rebbe been hospitalized the past two weeks at Tel Hashomer Hospital and was Niftar on Monday. The Levaya will be held on Monday at his Bais Medrash located at 9 Rechov Yehoshua in Bnei Brak.
