It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Maran HaGaon Rav Yerachmiel Gershon Edelstein zt”l. He was 100 years old.
Rav Gershon had been hospitalized for the last week or so and his condition turned critical this morning. He was niftar at about 10 o’clock local time.
Rav Gershon was the senior member of the of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah and the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponevezh for eight decades.
The levaya is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Yeshivas Ponevezh in Bnei Brak.

Rav Elya Chaim Swerdloff, rosh yeshiva of the Paterson Yeshiva, will be one of the guest speakers at the upcoming Adirei Hatorah event, Matzav.com has learned.
While rumors of his speaking had been bandied about, it was only finalized last night.
Rav Swerdloff is recognized as one of the leading roshei yeshivos in the United States. His yeshiva is renowned for its sterling reputation and for producing bnei Torah of the highest caliber.

The condition of Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh in Bnei Brak, at Maayanei Hayeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak has worsened. All are ask to daven for his refuah. 
The rosh yeshiva, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, was hospitalized last week after suffering from shortness of breath. Upon his arrival, the rosh yeshiva underwent a battery of tests and it was decided by physicians to keep him there for further treatment and supervision.
All are asked to daven for Rav Yerachmiel Gershon ben Miriam.

The hospitalization of Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein, Rosh Yeshivas Ponovezh, has caused great concern in the Torah world, as previously reported on Matzav.com.
He has since been at the intensive care unit at the Ma’ayanei HaYeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak.
It became widely known that the Rosh Yeshiva was greatly concerned while in the hospital.
What was his concern?

Thousands of Vizhnitzer Chassidim participated today in a hachnosas Sefer Torah in Bnei Brak l’illui nishmas the Yeshuos Moshe of Vizhnitz.
The Vizhnitzer Rebbe, Rav Yisroel Hager, was at the center of the celebration, transported in a special carriage- like vehicle, surrounded by large crowds filling the streets.
The procession left from Rechov Damesek Eliezer at the corner of Sderot Vizhnitz and headed to Rechov Ezra and Givat Pinchos, and from there to the large Vizhnitzer Bais Medrash.

Just before the Yom Tov of Shavuos, gedolei Torah in the city of Bnei Brak a unique gift from Rabbi Aharon Yosef Kornitzer of the Tiv Matzos Bakery: a bouquet of wheat stalks.
The wheat stalks were from the beginning of the harvest of wheat for matzah for Pesach 5784.

Rabbi Alter Yachnes, known to children all over the world as “Rebbi Alter” for his famous songs and popular children’s albums, is in serious condition at the hospital and in need of rachamei Shomayim.
Rebbi Alter was hospitalized on the eve of the Yom Tov of Shavuos.
He is at the intensive care unit of Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital in Yerushalayim.
The 75-year-old resident of Yerushalayim is a star chinuch entertainer among children thanks to his many catchy tunes, including his famous song “Paroh in Pajamas.”

The rosh yeshiva, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, suffered from shortness of breath. Upon his arrival, the rosh yeshiva underwent a battery of tests and it was decided by phyisicans to keep him there for further treatment and supervision.
Over the course of the night, Rav Edelstein’s condition stabilized, but he is still hospitalized and his condition is being closely monitored.
At Ponevezh Yeshiva, lomdim stopped their Shavuos night learning to recite Tehillim.
