In a lengthy hesped during his Chumash shiur, Rav Avraham Yehoshua Soloveitchik, rosh yeshivas Brisk, spoke of the Ponovezh rosh yeshiva, Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l.
Among other things, Rav Soloveitchik mentioned that without Rav Edelstein, the Ponovezh Yeshiva would not have been sustained, and he expressed our need for rachamim, mercy, from Hashem.
He mentioned that we should learn from Rav Gershon “how to live our lives with rare calmness,” a calmness that Rav Soloveitchik described as “Reb Gershondig.”

Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l, Rosh Yeshivas Ponovezh, was very careful for decades, since he was young, not to leave the city of Bnei Brak. Why?
The reason was singular: His blood pressure was sensitive and could rise from any abnormal activity, especially traveling by car. According to his calculations, if he went on a round trip to Yerushalayim, it would raise his blood pressure and weaken him, thus preventing him from delivering shiur to his talmidim.

Maran Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky, Philadelphia rosh yeshiva, is back in the hospital, Matzav.com has learned, and all are asked to daven for his refuah.

He has now returned to the hospital as his condition has regressed.
All are asked to continue davening for Rav Shmuel ben Itta Ettil.

Currently, at the Ponevezh Yeshiva, they are learning Maseches Sanhedrin during this zeman, the last masechta on which the late Rosh Yeshiva, Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l, gave shiur.
