This week marks the first yahrtzeit of Rabbi Meir Shmuel Katz zt”l, who served as the menahel of Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael for many years. His family revealed how a sketch from the Chazon Ish guided a physician on how to perform a cranial surgery on their late father.
One of his sons recounted, “A few days before he passed away, my brother told him something about the Chazon Ish, and my father quietly said, ‘I, too, had something with the Chazon Ish.’ He then sealed his lips and said nothing more. During the shivah, a son of Rabbi Avraham Rein shared what he had heard from his father.

Argentina’s President-elect Javier Milei paid a visit to the Eleventh neighborhood in Buenos Aires, stopping at Chevrat Pinto on Motzoei Shabbos. He participated in Havdalah and received a bracha from Kabbalist Rav Dovid Chananiah Pinto.
Milei has expressed his intention to dedicate time to an in-depth study of Jewish sources after his presidential term.
Milei expressed his support for Israel’s right to self-defense, denounced Hamas terror, and called for the return of hostages. He also announced his plan to relocate the Argentinian embassy from Herzliya to Yerushalayim.
During Havdalah, the president wore a yarmulka on his head.
Milei vowed to maintain a strong kesher with Rabbi Pinto and the Jewish community in Argentina.

The challenging situation in the Olam HaTorah, coupled with the economic crisis emanating from the United States, prompted askan Shai Graucher to take action and support yungeleit by establishing a foundation named Magna Umatzla (Protect and Save).
In the past week, Shai raised substantial funds for thousands of struggling yungeleit, transferring the money directly to the bank accounts of the yeshivos and kollelim. This assistance has been extended to thousands of families in the southern communities such as Ofakim, Netivot, and Ashkelon.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rebbetzin Chana Hershkowitz a”h, wife of Hagaon Rav Meir Hershkowitz zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Binyomin of Stamford.
Rav Hershkowitz was one of the gedolei roshei yeshiva and gedolei hador of America. A prized talmid of Rav Aharon Kotler zt”l, Rav Hershkwitz had a profound impact on talmidim over many decades of harbotzas haTorah.
Rebbetzin Hershkowitz was a daughter of Mr. Harry Schiff z”l, a unique baal habayis of a bygone era in America who had tremendous esteem for Torah and talmidei chachomim.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rabbi Yechezkel Pikus z”l, a longtime pillar of the Flatbush community.
A veteran askan who devoted his life to tzorchei tzibbur and to helping people, Rabbi Pikus served as the executive director of the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush. Rabbi Pikus stood at the helm of this community-based group since 1989, in addition to serving as director of the Shorefront and Coney Island JCC from 1973 to 1989.

A senior officer serving in Gaza wrote to Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein that more soldiers lose their lives at night than during the day.
Rav Zilberstein realized there is a gap in Torah study and tefillah between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. when soldiers and yeshiva students engage less in these activities.
He appealed to the tzibbur to pray and study during these nighttime hours. He even suggested organizing groups for this purpose, comparing the people participating in the project with the maamados, people present when the daily sacrifices (temidim) were offered in the Bais Hamikdosh to represent the entire Jewish people.

The Jewish Observer from June 1967 features a report, which you can see above, on a ruling of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, which at the time included Rav Moshe Feinstein, Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky, Rav Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman and Rav Yitzchok Hutner.
The piece, titled “Agudath Israel Faces Israel’s Emergency,” states as follows:
MOETZES GEDOLEI HATORAH DISCUSSES ISRAEL CRISIS: The critical security situation of Eretz Yisroel was on the top of the agenda of a meeting of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah, which took place on May 23rd in the national headquarters of Agudath Israel of America at 5 Beckman Street, in New York City.

In a recent exchange, Rav Dovid Schustal, rosh yeshiva of Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, NJ, sought guidance from the renowned mekubal, Rav Dov Kook, of Tiveriah.
Rav Schustal inquired about steps that bnei yeshiva in America could take to be mechazeik themselves amidst the current situation in Eretz Yisrael.
Rav Kook’s response emphasized a dual approach for men and women. He advised that men should recite the parsha of the Akeidah and incorporate the reading of the korbanos to before both Shacharis and Mincha. As for women and girls, Rav Kook recommended an increase in acts of gemilas chassadim (acts of kindness).
