Traffic is snarled across large portions of Yerushalayim after a massive convoy of protesters in vehicles decrying the Israeli governments Covid-19 restrictions made their way into the capital city. The convoy, consisting of some 30,000 vehicles, snaked its way from Tel Aviv to Yerushalayim along Route 1, which links the two cities, briefly blocking the highway from other vehicles. The protest, modeled after the Freedom Convoy in Canada, in which some 50,000 truckers mounted a protest against their government’s Covid restrictions, will soon attempt to block anyone from reaching the Knesset, a protester tells YWN.

The Biden administration on Friday escalated its dire warnings about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine, saying it could take place within days, even as diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis continued. The White House said it still didn’t know if Russian President Vladimir Putin had made a decision to invade, but it said Putin has assembled all the elements to do so quickly and told Americans in Ukraine to leave within the next 48 hours. The stark warning accelerated the projected timeframe for a potential invasion, which many analysts believed was unlikely to start until after the Winter Olympics in China end on Feb. 20. The heightened U.S.

In a Thursday night interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, President Joe Biden denied the findings of a damning Army report that his administration wasn’t prepared for the Afghanistan withdrawal. Holt asked Biden, “I have to draw your attention to that Army report, an investigative report that’s come out about the lead-up to the withdrawal from Afghanistan. It interviewed many military officials and officers who said the administration ignored the handwriting on the wall, another described trying to get folks in the embassy ready to evacuate and encountering people who were in — essentially in denial of the situation. Does any of that ring true to you?” Biden responded, “No, no. That’s not what I was told.” “That you were told that the U.S.

The 15-year-old perpetrator of a string of violent antisemitic attacks in Williamsburg last Shabbos has been apprehended by the NYPD. NYPD sources have confirmed to YWN that a sole suspect wanted in connection to both incidents, in which Chasidic Jews were hit and shoved, has been taken into custody by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force. The teen has been charged with three counts of assault and two counts of committing a hate crime. The suspect is not believed to be connected to a separate recent antisemitic crime in Williamsburg, in which multiple swastikas were spray-painted on buses. However, the NYPD says they are making significant headway in that investigation.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is criticizing the Republican National Committee for censuring two House GOP lawmakers investigating the “violent insurrection” on Jan. 6, 2021, saying it’s not the party’s job to police the views of lawmakers. As former President Donald Trump has downplayed the attack by his supporters last year — the worst attack against the Capitol in two centuries — the RNC last week took a voice vote to approve censuring Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois at the party’s winter meeting in Salt Lake City. The two Republicans sit on a Democrat-led House committee that is aggressively investigating the siege and has subpoenaed many in the former president’s inner circle.
