U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver said he was caught off guard by the negative response after he ended his opening prayer on the first day of the new Congress by saying, “Amen and A-woman.” Cleaver, a United Methodist minister and former mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, is in his ninth term in Congress. He told the Kansas City Star his “A-woman” reference on Sunday was intended to recognize the record number of women serving in the new Congress. But it spurred a torrent of criticism from conservatives who accused Cleaver of misunderstanding the meaning of “amen,” a Hebrew word that means “so be it.” Republican U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania incorrectly stated on Twitter that “Amen” has Latin origins, but added, “It’s not a gendered word.

Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed through metal barricades at the back of the Capitol building about 1 p.m. Wednesday, running past security guards and breaking fences. Some reached the steps of the Capitol – and video footage shows some making their way inside the building. Several Capitol police stood guard but could not hold back the tide. Hundreds scaled and kicked aside the barricades, yelling “forward!!” as they ran upward. President Trump, who repeatedly urged his supporters gathered on the Ellipse earlier today to march to the U.S. Capitol to demand that Congress overturn the election, tweeted a call to “stay peaceful” as some of those supporters broke into the Capitol building. President Trump is expected to deliver remarks at a “Save America March” outside of the White House. The rally was organized by Trump supporters who believe the election was stolen. President Trump’s supporters have descended on the nation’s capital to cheer his claims of election fraud ahead of a congressional vote to affirm Joe Biden’s election victory. The president is expected to personally address his supporters during a Wednesday morning rally on the Ellipse, just south of the White House. A protest took place on Tuesday on Rechov Bar Ilan in Jerusalem against the construction of the light rail line that is being built through Chareidi neighborhoods. Kanaim have been holding ongoing protests against the construction. In the course of the protest, the kanaim tried knocking over a heavy safety barrier at the site and a 10-year-old Chareidi boy was injured on his leg. Much effort was required to extricate the boy. He was treated by MDA paramedics on the scene and evacuated to the hospital.

Qatar’s ruler arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, following an announcement that the kingdom would open its airspace and land border with its tiny Gulf neighbor. He was seen descending from his plane and being greeted with a hug by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In an effort to speed up what has been a sluggish rollout of the coronavirus vaccine, New York’s governor threatened Monday to fine hospitals up to $100,000 if they don’t finish their first round of inoculations by the end of the week. Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the threat hours before announcing the discovery of the state’s first known case of a new, more contagious variant of the virus. A man in his 60s who works at a jewelry store in Saratoga Springs tested positive for the variant, the governor said. The man has COVID-19 symptoms but is “on the mend,” Cuomo said. The discovery underscored the need for more urgency in a vaccination campaign that has, so far, moved at a snail’s pace.

An Israeli civilian thwarted a stabbing attack by an Arab terrorist on Tuesday afternoon near the Gush Etzion junction, about ten minutes south of Jerusalem. The terrorist, armed with a meat cleaver, approached an Israeli civilian near the Gush Etzion Winery, located near the junction, in an attempt to stab him. Another Israeli civilian noticed the scene and moved toward the suspect, who threw his knife at him. The civilian then opened fire, killing the terrorist. It is reported that the Palestinian assailant was planning to stab an Israeli civilian. Another civilian noticed, approached the suspect who then threw the knife at him, the civilian opened fire, killing the suspect.

A collision between two ambulances latte Monday in Brooklyn left four EMTs injured, according to the FDNY. The crash occurred just before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Midwood Street and Brooklyn Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, officials said. FDNY officials said one EMT was transported to a nearby hospital. The other three were treated at the scene for their injuries. (AP)

A video showing Florida governor Ron DeSantis blasting a CNN reporter while she tries to ask about the state’s coronavirus vaccine rollout has been viewed millions of times in just 14 hours. The clip shows the moment CNN’s Rosa Flores tries to ask DeSantis about why some elderly patients had to join long queues and even sleep out overnight in order to get their vaccine in some parts of Florida. The attached video is simply shocking. The total disregard for not only vehicle and traffic law, but the total disregard for the lives of children is appalling. This occurred in Boro Park on 18th Avenue and 55th Street. The bus driver blocked both directions of traffic and had his red lights flashing, as a young child is seen running to the bus. That’s precisely when not one – but two vehicles blow past the bus speeds fast enough to kill a child.
