Rabbi Chaim Rottenberg of Congregation Netzach Yisroel in Monsey will be delivering the Invocation at the NY “State of the State” address at 1:30PM today. This will mark the first time a Chassidish Rav has given the blessing. NY Governor Cuomo visited the home of Rabbi Rottenberg following the vicious attack in his home on Chanukah. Governor Cuomo’s 2020 State of the State agenda includes more than 30 proposals that he has outlined on his website. The proposals include those that would not immediately impact the budget, as well as those that could bring in revenues for the state. Currently, the state is beginning the new year facing a $6 billion budget gap.

President Donald Trump faces one of the greatest tests of his presidency after Iran launched ballistic missiles at Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops and plans to address the nation on Wednesday. Iran’s attack was its most brazen direct assault on America since the 1979 seizing of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. The strikes pushed Tehran and Washington perilously close to war and put the world’s attention on Trump as he weighs whether to respond with more military force. The Republican president huddled with his national security advisers on Tuesday night but offered no immediate indication of whether he would retaliate. “All is well!” he said in a tweet. The White House said Trump plans to address the nation at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday.

Heavy rain began falling overnight in Israel’s north and by Wednesday afternoon, there was heavy flooding in several cities and snow accumulating in Ramat Hagolan. A 32-year old resident of Nahariya drowned on Wednesday afternoon when he was swept away by a stream of water as he was trying to rescue a mother and daughter who were trapped in a flood. His body was located after several hours by a rescue unit. His neighbor said: “A tragic drowning that to my knowledge has never occurred in Nahariya.” Earlier on Wednesday afternoon in Nahariya, two cars were caught in a heavy stream of water, with one car flipping over, when the Ga’aton river which bisects the city overflowed its banks due to the torrential rain.

A man is undergoing surgery after a pit-bull attack in Spring Valley, Tuesday afternoon. Chaverim of Rockland tell YWN that at around 4:00PM, a vicious loose pit-bull attacked a young girl and a baby walking on Hoyt Street near West Street. The dog first attacked the girl, and tried to drag the baby away from her. A brave Rockland Chaverim volunteer who lives on the street heard the screams, and ran over and tried getting the baby out of the dogs mouth. The dog would not let go, so the Chaverim member used a knife to cut the baby’s coat to let her free. As soon as the dog lost its grip, the dog ran to a Jewish man standing nearby and viciously chomped down on his hand – literally locking his jaw on the man.

The Siyum HaShas events around the world continue, as thousands continue to pack each event. On Tuesday evening, around 10,000 Jews joined together at the Wembley Arena in London for the Agudath Israel Siyum Hashas. The event is arguably one of the largest gatherings of (if not the largest) Orthodox Jews in a single location in Europe since the Holocaust. Below are videos and photos of the massive event: (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)

Gov. Andrew Cuomo was filmed Monday helping a man out of a van that crashed on a major New York City highway. Footage taken by his staff showed the Democratic governor helping a man out of the driver’s seat of a large catering van that had run up the median and turned on its side on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Cuomo and his staff were on their way back from a luncheon at the Association for a Better New York, en route to catch a flight when they came across the crash. The New York Police Department had not yet arrived on the scene when Cuomo’s vehicle pulled over and the governor cut the man out of his seat belt and helped him to safety. He received assistance from the state police troopers he was traveling with.

The Guardian Angels, a private, unarmed crime-prevention group, said it would start patrolling Boro Park, to assist the Shomrim Patrol, following a series of anti-Semitic attacks. Curtis Sliwa, who founded the organization in 1979 in New York City was in Boro Park on Monday night and spoke for the cameras, There is only one language the thugs understand”, Sliwa said on camera. “Pain compliance”. “Shomrim, remember you’re roots. You gotta get rough and you gotta get tough…and most importantly, you gotta let them know you mean business. If they come into your Jewish community to attack your people, then you gotta get out there and send them a message they understand, an attitude readjustment.” (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
