The Prime Minister’s Office announced on Wednesday morning that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu intends to appoint the current Shin Bet Deputy Chief to the position of acting head while he continues his search for a new Shin Bet chief to replace Ronen Bar. The Shin Bet Deputy Chief is known only by S., his first initial. The PMO’s Office said, “Netanyahu continues to interview candidates for the position of Shin Bet Chief, including candidates he has already interviewed. But since the process of appointing a permanent chief cannot be completed before April 10, the date set by the government for the end of Ronen Bar’s term, the Prime Minister intends to assign S, the current Shin Bet Deputy Chief, the position of acting chief until the appointment of a permanent Shin Bet chief.” The announcement comes a day after Netanyahu revoked his appointment of former naval chief Vice-Admiral (res.) Eli Sharvit due to his participation in the leftist protests against the judicial reform and a recent article he wrote criticizing President Donald Trump. (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)
