YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Rebbitzen Sarah Zakheim A”H. She was 105. Rebbitzen Zakheim was the wife of HaRav Yaakov Zakheim Zt”l, a longtime Rov in Flatbush. Rebbitzen Zakheim was born in Palestine, and at a young age immigrated to the United States. As a girl, she was a secretary in Yeshiva Torah Vodaath. When she left her position, it was said that they had to hire three people to replace her. She married in the late 1940’s and moved to Trenton, NJ, where they became Rav and Rebbitzen. Before the birth of her first child, she realized that Trenton was not the place to raise a family, so HaRav Yaakov got a new job as a Rav in East Flatbush at Beth Medresh HaGadol of East Flatbush. They remained there there until 1976 when the community changed.

Chaim was on an Alaska Air flight from Los Angeles to Ft Lauderdale with two of his business partners when he suddenly suffered a massive heart attack. The plane immediately began making an emergency landing in New Orleans. The flight crew did CPR on him until the plane landed, and Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was unfortunately Niftar. There happened to be a Flatbush Hatzolah Paramedic in the area at the time who made his way to the hospital to assist his shocked partners and to ensure Kavod Hames. Just a week ago, he mentioned to his son Shimmy that he was confident he had never taken “a nickel that didn’t belong to me.” A lifelong Bluzhever chasid, he unwaveringly followed the advice and guidance of his rebbe and rabbanim, and established doros of boys and girls who are following in his upright path.
