YWN regrets to inform you of the sudden tragic Petira of Chaim Elefant Z”L. He was 32. Chaim was on an Alaska Air flight from Los Angeles to Ft Lauderdale with two of his business partners when he suddenly suffered a massive heart attack. The plane immediately began making an emergency landing in New Orleans. The flight crew did CPR on him until the plane landed, and Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was unfortunately Niftar. There happened to be a Flatbush Hatzolah Paramedic in the area at the time who made his way to the hospital to assist his shocked partners and to ensure Kavod Hames. With tremendous Siyata Dishmaya, the local coroner released the Niftar after intervention by Chesed Shel Emes and various Askanim.

He was a guest lecturer for many years for Hatzalah in many different neighborhoods, on the topics of pediatric emergencies.

YWN regrets to inform you of the petirah of Reb Moshe Bertram z”l, who was niftar on Wednesday in Lakewood. He was 82. Reb Moshe z”l was born in the Bertch ghetto in April 1940 and went on to survive the brutal conditions of Siberia through World War II before arriving in the U.S. in 1949. The founder of Bertram Foods, Reb Moshe z”l was scrupulous almost to a fault. Just a week ago, he mentioned to his son Shimmy that he was confident he had never taken “a nickel that didn’t belong to me.” A lifelong Bluzhever chasid, he unwaveringly followed the advice and guidance of his rebbe and rabbanim, and established doros of boys and girls who are following in his upright path. Reb Moshe z”l, is survived by his wife, Mrs.

YWN regrets to inform you of the petirah of Harav Shmuel Shmelke Leifer zt”l of Boro Park. Throughout his life, Rav Shmuel was a sought-after speaker, whose sagely advice was absorbed by thousands of people. He was particularly vocal about his opposition to yeshivos turning bochurim away, which he strongly believed them astray. He was also the rav hamachshir on many kosher eateries in Boro Park for several decades. The levayah is scheduled to take place Monday morning at his Beis Medrash at 16th Avenue & 55th in Boro Park. The olam hatorah and Sefardi community in particular have been struck by the devastating loss of HaRav Shimon Badani zt”l, the nasi of the Moetzes Chachmei HaTorah of Shas, on Wednesday morning about 8 a.m. at Sheba Hospital in Tel HaShomer. He was 94. The levaya will begin at 1 p.m. from Kollel Torah V’Chayim on Rechov Rabi Akiva in Bnei Brak and will continue to the Ponevezh beis hakevaros in the city, where HaRav Badani, z’tl, will be buried next to his late Rebbetzin. HaRav Badani, z’tl, succeeded HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen zt”l as nasi just a few months ago, and now leaves a gaping leadership void in the Sefardic world. Rav Shalom zt”l had led the Moetzes Chachmei Hatorah for nine years following the petirah of Chacham Ovadiah Yosef zt”l.
