YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Reb Boruch Harar Z”L of Flatbush / Lakewood. He was approximately 85. Reb Boruch was part of a group of Moroccan Bochrim who had been brought from Morocco to the Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn by the venerable Rosh Yeshiva, Hagaon HaRav Avraham Kalmanowitz ZATZAL. He never left the surroundings of the Yeshiva, where he raised a mishpacha of Bnei Torah – nearly all of whom are magidei Shiurim or in other chinuch capacities. For many years he owned a mattress company called Paradise Mattress in NY. He moved to Lakewood a number of years ago, returning to the Mirrer Yeshiva for Yomim Noraim each year, never wanting to miss Davening in his beloved Yeshiva.

YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of R’ Gershon Sontag Z”L, a longtime Flatbush Hatzolah Paramedic. Gershon was a member of Flatbush Hatzolah for approximately 35 years where he was known as “F-12”. He was one of the original Paramedics in Hatzolah in New York City. He responded to thousands upon thousands of calls over the years, saving countless lives. Gershon was a big Baal Chesed and Baal Tzedakah, doing so very quietly and without any fanfare or recognition. He owned a medical laboratory in Brooklyn, using his business and connections in the medical field to assist many people in times of need. Gershon was sick the past two years, and was Niftar early Tuesday morning with his Mispacha at his bedside.

YWN regrets to inform you of the petirah of R’ Alexander Zisha Rosenblum z”l, who was critically injured in a horrific accident on the Palisades Parkway in 2016 as he returned home from being a “tantzer” at a wedding in Monsey. The niftar and several other “tantzers” were heading to Boro Park late on the night of November 4th, 2016, when a deer ran in front of the minivan they were in at around Exit 11. The driver swerved to avoid the deer and lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it crashing into a tree. Everyone in the vehicle was injured, some to a lesser extent, and one in critical condition. R’ Alexander Zisha z”l tragically never recovered from his injuries.

YWN regrets to inform you of the petirah of Dr. Shmuel Eliezer (Steven) Hakohen Krauss Z”L, a legendary 5 Towns pediatric dentist and tremendous baal chessed. He was just 63. Dr. Krauss was a beloved figure in his community whose under-the-radar chessed assisted hundreds of people without any acclaim for himself. “He provided free dentistry needs to an untold number of people without the means to pay, refused to bill others he knew couldn’t pay, and made himself available night and day – on any day – for emergencies,” a community askan told YWN. In addition to being a renowned dentist, Dr. Krauss served as a paramedic on Far Rockaway Hatzalah (known as “RL-76”) for over two decades, and was a tremendous baal tzedakah whose giving knew no bounds or limits.

Rabbi Yosef Chaim Hakohen Rosenfeld, the Brooklyn-born spirited Executive Director of Educational Institute Oholei Torah in Crown Heights, a premier Chabad boys Yeshiva, passed away on Wednesday night, eve of 19 Elul, 5782. He was 89. Born in Brooklyn to R’ Chanoch Henoch and Esther Miriam Rosenfeld, he was one of the Talmidim Hashluchim sent by the Rebbe to comfort the residents of the Kfar Chabad village after the Yad Hachamish terror attack in 1956. He was married on the 23rd of Kislev 5718 to Malka Reizel Lokshin and merited to have the Rebbe officiate the Chuppah in the courtyard of 770 Eastern Parkway.

It is with a broken heart that YWN informs you of the petirah of Reb Yanky (Jack) Meyer Z”L, the founder of Misaskim and one of the leading askanim in Klal Yisroel. He was 58. Yanky suffered from a terrible illness in recent months and his condition severely deteriorated in the weeks prior to his tragic petirah. Yanky was an incredible human being, a person whose magnanimity and selflessness may never truly be understood, and someone whose relentless drive to help others deprived him of every basic worldly pleasure. He was simply too busy devoting his life to helping console those in pain and providing support to anyone he could possibly help, to enjoy even a single night of uninterrupted sleep.
