A bird strike sparked an engine fire on a plane shortly after it took off Sunday from an Ohio airport, and the aircraft returned safely with no injuries reported, authorities said. American Airlines flight 1958 had departed from John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Columbus around 7:45 a.m. and was headed to Phoenix. The fire was detected a short time later and the Boeing 737 returned to the airport, where firefighters quickly doused the flames. It wasn’t clear how many passengers and crew members were aboard the aircraft. The airline said the plane was taken out of service for maintenance and it was working to get the passengers on other flights. Airport officials said the facility remained operating as usual and the fire only caused some minor flight delays.

Israel’s Knesset Channel published an amusing video that highlights the kibbud eim of UTJ MK Yaakov Asher. “Ima is above everything,” the explanation to the video states. “Watch the chairman of the Interior Committee MK Yaakov Asher answer a call from his mother in the middle of a committee discussion.” Asher, who serves as the chairman of the Knesset’s Interior Committee, was addressing the committee when his kosher phone rang. “One minute,” he excused himself. “It’s my mother.” He then turned around and spoke quietly to his mother for a minute or two, to the amusement of the committee members. When he finished, he apologized and said. “Slicha, this is more important than everything, Baruch Hashem.” HaRav Asher’s father passed away several months ago at the age of 96.

The third installment of radio host Zev Brenner’s interviews with Aryeh Hospitality proprietor Heshy Goldstein aired last night on Talkine Networks. It was chaotic almost from the start. The interview, which focused heavily on the Atlantic City Pesach hotel debacle that took place this year in which customers and investors lost tens of thousands of dollars when the program was suddenly cancelled a week before Pesach. As has been the case since the debacle first unfolded, customers of the Pesach program were left with few answers as to what exactly happened with their money. Interestingly, an investor who previously worked with Mr. Goldstein called in to the show and offered to put up $25,000 in restitution to the victims if Mr. Goldstein provided evidence for some his claims.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Thursday declined to condemn the anti-Semitic remarks made by his uncle, whom he had previously defended in a college op-ed that recently came to light. Instead, Jeffries simply stated that he does not hold any of the contentious opinions expressed by his relative. In the recently unearthed college op-ed from 1992, Jeffries also defended notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, who has referred to Jews as “termites” – and that’s on of the nicer things he’s said. “I think I’ve made clear consistently that I do not share any of the controversial views that were expressed by my uncle more than three decades ago,” Jeffries said Thursday.

Pentagon officials showed lawmakers a previously unreleased video of an Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), better known as UFO, that was seen over a conflict zone somewhere in the Middle East. Officials say they have no idea what the object was or where it came from. The clip, shown to the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities on Wednesday, shows a metallic-looking orb zip by the camera of a Reaper drone. The object was seen moving from the top right of the screen to the bottom left. It briefly disappears and then suddenly and briefly reappears. “This is essentially all the data we have of this event” said Dr.

Shas MK Moshe Arbel on Wednesday was sworn-in as the Minister of Health and Interior, replacing Shas chairman Aryeh Deri. The Shas party announced earlier this week, through a letter from Moetzet Chachmaei HaTorah member HaGaon HaRav Moshe Maya, that Arbel will fill Deri’s place in the ministries until the Deri 2 law passes, which will allow Deri, who was forced to resign by the Supreme Court, to return to the government. The legislation of the Deri law was frozen as part of the ongoing negotiations between the coalition and opposition on advancing the judicial reform plan. If the Deri 2 law passes and Deri resumes his positions in the ministries, Arbel will serve as his deputy minister. (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)
