Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said on Wednesday that Hamas will still pose a threat even after a military operation in Rafah city, its last stronghold in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at the Ynet and Yediot Ahronot “People of the State” conference at Expo Tel Aviv, Hagari said, “I want to tell the public, so that they do not delude themselves: Even after we deal with Rafah, there will be terror. Hamas will move northwards and try to reconstitute itself, even in the next few days. In every place Hamas returns to, including in northern and central Gaza, we will return to operating.”
The spokesperson put the Gaza war in perspective from the military’s point of view on the 215th day of fighting since the Hamas-led massacre of Oct. 7.

In a secret letter dated 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu urged the Qatari government to maintain financial support to Gaza.
In the letter, Netanyahu explained that the funding would reduce the motivation of terror groups there to carry out attacks, would prevent a humanitarian crisis and was vital for preserving regional stability.
Qatari funding played a pivotal role in Hamas’s evolution from a marginal militant group to a formidable force, marked by extensive military infrastructure, including tunnels and substantial firepower. Initially, between 2007 and 2014, Qatar’s financial aid to Hamas operated independently of international oversight. Subsequently, from 2014 onwards, Qatar coordinated its assistance with the United States and Israel.

“Shrimp and grits,” Harris, 59, interjected with a grin as she pointed to her bag. “You wanted to know.”
“Hamas says it accepted a cease-fire deal. Your reaction?” the reporter continued.
“What are your thoughts on Hamas accepting a cease-fire deal?” another reporter asked.
Harris got into her motorcade without answering.

The Biden administration has confirmed reports of withholding a shipment containing 2,000 and 500-pound bombs, expressing concerns over their potential use by Israel in a significant ground operation in Rafah. It marked the first instance since October 7 that the US had paused a weapons delivery intended for Israel.
Washington’s stance against a large-scale offensive in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah remained firm, driven by apprehensions about the safety of over a million Palestinians residing there amidst escalating tensions. The administration deemed it impractical for Israel to undertake such an operation without risking civilian casualties.
