The Telzstone community, and especially those who were the parents of young boys, were shocked this week by the passing of long-time cheder rebbi & father of 5 Rav Yehoshua Lubar. Lubar was a healthy man, who had recovered from coronavirus over 5 months ago. Unbeknownst to Lubar, the virus had given him a blood clot, which ultimately caused him to have a stroke. The rabbi was in the middle of davening in shul when he collapsed and never recovered.
The story continues the disturbing trend of blood clots and heart issues in healthy men after recovery from COVID.

“A few days ago, people came into the building and evicted the people davening there.”

For more than a decade, Rabbi Yosef Halperin and his family have dedicated their lives to bringing the remaining Jews of Varna, Bulgaria back to Judaism. And they’ve had hundreds of incredible success stories. Rabbi Halperin and his family have a warmth and passion that has drawn many unaffiliated Jews close to their heritage. But because of recent events, the focus of their mission is about to change completely.

Hodaya’s face crossed almost every Jewish newspaper as her hair-raising story was brought to light: The well-meaning young girl from Israel was travelling to Peru to help a family babysit their children while on vacation. Unbeknownst to Hodaya, the family had hidden illegal substances in her suitcase. When the authorities at the airport discovered what was hidden inside, Hodaya froze in complete horror: She couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

Then, the religious girl was aggressively hand-cuffed. Hodaya’s life was changed in an awful instant: The Peruvian authorities forced her behind bars without a trial.

Many of our readers remember when Hodaya Monsango’s face made the news. An acquaintance had offered the naive 26 year old young lady with special needs what sounded to her like a dream come true– To travel with their family on a vacation to Peru in exchange for babysitting assistance. Hodaya’s trusting nature lended her to say yes.

And that was her mistake.

L’chvoid all the Purim Shluchei Mitzvah,
As the events of this past year has caused all of us to alter our plans, traveling this Purim to collect for the Mosdos Hatorah and Chesed are unfortunately no different.
As someone living on the west coast, although it may be a tad more difficult, I’d like to try and help in my own small way. Just over the last two weeks, between emails, voicemails and texts, I’ve received over a thousand requests to participate. It’s been hard for me and people assisting me to decipher most of the messages. Among the communications, there were duplicative, incoherent messages, some missing the names of the Mosdos, their addresses and a host of other pertinent information.
