Exactly a century ago, on the 9th of Elul 5683 (1923), Rav Meir Shapiro took the podium at the Knessiah Gedolah in Vienna. An air of anticipation permeated the room as he began his speech.
At 36 years old, Rav Shapiro possessed a captivating charm, a sharp wit, and was celebrated globally as an orator. His rabbinical journey had led him through diverse locales in Poland and Galicia, such as Piotrkov and Lublin, while his involvement with Agudas Yisroel and advocacy for Polish Jewry’s needs in the Sejm remained notable.
In this moment, Rav Shapiro proposed an innovative concept that aimed to unite the global Jewish community around the study of the Daf Yomi – a single folio of the Talmud Bavli  each day. He invoked Rabi Akiva’s narrative to illustrate his idea.

Renowned and beloved singer Dedi Graucher was urgently transported to Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer in serious condition last night.
Presently, he is under the care of the cardiac intensive care unit.
Graucher dealt with a severe health setback approximately five years ago and underwent a remarkable recovery. Nonetheless, his medical journey has remained delicate since that time, necessitating periodic hospitalizations.
Over 20 years ago, Dedi occupied a place of prominence as one of the most beloved Jewish performers. With his various health challenges, he ceased performing.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rabbi Tzvi Tausky zt”l of Rechov Chazon Ish in Bnei Brak. He was 87 years old.
Rav Tzvi was born in Budapest, Hungary, a son of Rabbi Asher Tausky. At a young age, he was orphaned by his father and was left scarred by the fired of the Holocaust, which he survived, and he eventually went to Eretz Yisroel.
He became one of the prominent talmidim of Yeshivas Ponovezh in Bnei Brak, and was close to the Ponovezher Rov and the mashgiach, Rav Chatzkel Levenstein.

This past week, Rav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, NJ, visited Eretz Yisroel. Sources indicate that the rosh yeshiva went to participate in a simcha in the family of his late brother, Rav Meir zt”l.
During his time there, Rav Kotler spoke at Yeshivas Chevron and at yeshivas Be’er Mordechai.
He also visited various gedolei Torah, including Rav Meir Tzvi Bergman, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Rashbi, and Rav Dov Landau and Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Slabodka.

Reb Moyshe Silk, an American attorney, writer, and former government official, is quite an accomplished individual. Much of the world knows him as Mitchell Silk, a brilliant legal mind, an authority on Chinese law and infrastructure finance, and the only Chassidic Jew ever confirmed by the Senate to one of the highest positions in the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and, for that matter, the U.S. Government.
Many people are privileged to know him as Reb Moyshe, a talmid chacham of note, a gifted writer, and a talented teacher of Torah.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Aharon Moshe Schechter zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin. He was 97.
Rav Schechter was born in 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of R’ Yossel (Joe) and Rose Schechter. R’ Yossel was one of the stalwart baalei batim in the East New York section of the city.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Chaim Shmueli zt”l. He was 86.
Rav Chaim was born in France. During his youth, he witnessed the horrors of the Nazi regime’s conquest. He was compelled to hide for a year in a foreign family’s home as the Gestapo went from house to house searching for hidden Jews. Miraculously, each time, he narrowly escaped their grasp, often posing as a non-Jewish boy. Throughout this period, his lips continually praised and thanked Hashem for saving him.
Upon reaching adulthood, he immigrated to the Holy Land, establishing his family there.
